An interview with Kim Kilpatrick

We all remember the day when the world shut down. Everything changed, and everyone had to learn how to live according to a new set of “rules” including mask wearing, following Xs on the ground in the grocery store, and most importantly: no touching. But what if you were totally blind? For a person who is used to exploring the world with their hands, the pandemic presented a whole new set of challenges. Will touching things while navigating make you sick? What do plexiglass and masks do to your sense of where people are? How do you social distance when blind? And most frightening of all, what if having a disability might mean you have lower priority for treatment and care? Journey with storyteller Kim Kilpatrick as she attempts to navigate the world while eagerly awaiting her next Guide Dog.

Kim Kilpatrick was first introduced to storytelling at the Ottawa Storytellers’ Beginner’s Workshop in the Fall of 2001. She fell in love with the art form immediately and has performed as a storyteller ever since. Kim has entertained audiences all across Canada. She has two previous one woman shows, Flying in the Dark (2011) and Raising Stanley/Life with Tulia (2018). These shows have been performed at festivals and theatres in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Victoria, and Winnipeg, among others. Kim is proud to be an artist with a disability. Her shows of living life as a totally blind woman are hits with audiences of all ages.

Note for those attending in-person: Doors open at 7:00PM ET. In an effort to keep our audiences and storyteller safe, OST has decided to continue our proof of vaccination for this performance. Patrons must show proof of their vaccination status with a photo ID, and masks must be worn. All ticket holders will be provided with a link to watch the show live-streamed. If you feel unwell, please stay home, and enjoy the show virtually.

Live stream ticket holders will receive a link to the performance four hours before showtime. Can’t watch during the live stream? That’s okay. The recording will be available for one week to ticket holders.
