Every person has their own way of preparing a story and how they do it. Storyteller Dovie Thomason will lead this workshop, and it is not about “how to prepare” but a conversation about the “why” of storytelling. This workshop will take the conversation framework and be participatory rather than “exercise-oriented”.
This workshop will look at what self-interrogation should take place before we pick up a story and start shaping it to our own voice and experience. Whether it is the selection of a traditional tale from folklore: Why should I attempt this? Or a personal or family story: Why would anyone outside my bubble care about this story? Or a historical story: Why does this speak of my intention or to this audience? Dovie will lead the discussion of Why me? Why am I the voice to share this narrative? These questions will guide the conversation in this workshop.
