Paul Shanker de Tourreil with 9 Lives, 8 Near-Misses : life lessons from near-death events
Thursday, October 10, 7:30pm ET | Blackbox Studio, Arts Court and On Demand
A car crash full of kids.
A knife-wielding madman.
True love, toxic masculinity, and the perils of both.
Swiss-Indian ninja and award-winner @postitpaul is a kung fu cat with nine lives, but after decades careening through bizarre, often comical misadventures, he’s down to his last life…
“It’s a funny show, but it grew out of serious emotional baggage around fatherhood, manhood, relationships, and how being open and vulnerable is both difficult and essential. Many people, young men in particular, have shared their own stories with me after seeing my show. It feels like the beginning of an unexplored conversation that really needs to happen.” - Paul Shanker de Tourreil
9 Lives, 8 Near-Misses : life lessons from near-death events was nominated for the Just For Laughs Outstanding English Comedy (Montreal Fringe Festival 2023) and won the Most Promising French Comedy (Montreal Fringe Festival 2024)!
Paul Shanker de Tourreil, aka @postitpaul, is a playwright (award-winning), biologist (non-practising), kung fu teacher (retired), proud Montrealer and Fringe Festival veteran. He has been writing and producing plays since 1996. He ventured into autobiographical storytelling early in 2023, telling multiple stories at Confabulation, the acclaimed Montreal-based storytelling series now in its 14th season, and debuted at its French-language counterpart Enfabulation in December of 2023.
